Gosh that sounds complicated in a twice removed sort of way. Really it's not. I actually met Katie and Troy on the day of their engagement session and we immediately hit it off. I loved their energy and willingness to try anything. Katie and Troy met in high school (Southgate Anderson I believe) and then went their separate ways. They reconnected through mutual friends and the rest is history. I can't wait until their October wedding in Gaylord. Did someone say fall, up north and wedding? I'm so in!

Now don't worry, it's not a sad move, it's a very good thing. Kristen is beginning her life as a Doctor in Houston and Ryan snagged a great engineering job there as well. When they hired me as their wedding photographer, they stressed how important it is to them to capture their love for each other along with their love for their city. They live right dab smack downtown and before they started packing up their lives for Houston, they spent an afternoon with me in the city that they love. We had a few hiccups and when I say a few - I mean a ton. You see, Detroit wedding and engagement photography isn't always easy. This spring and summer the entire city is pretty much under construction. Woodward is torn up for the rail project and orange barrels are everywhere else in the city. The beautiful grass that I so love in front of the old train station has been cut down to nothing and the Town Pump vinery on the front of the building is covered with scaffolding. To top it off, at the time of their session Belle Isle was being set up for the Grand Prix so there were grandstands and barrels everywhere! What started out as a one hour session turned into a four hour tour of the city. I have to tell you though, I had the absolute BEST time with these two! When I think of a couple who can roll with the punches I am thinking of Kristen and Ryan. It didn't matter how many orange barrels we ran into or how many locations were baracaded off - they just smiled and said - oh well - let's just have fun! And you know what - that's what we did. We ended up still hitting the main spots - but we just took a different view photographically speaking. I still shot awhere I normally do - but because of the obstacles I was forced to really think about the light and think about the connection between Kristen and Ryan. Because of that I think we were able to get a bit more artistic than I usually have time for. The construction slowed us down in a good way! March engagement sessions in Detroit aren't always fun. The weather is so unpredictable that we just don't know what mother nature will bring us. It could be 50 and sunny or 20 and cold. On the day of Brittney and Phil's engagement session is was more like 30, sometimes sunny, super windy and oh-so cold. But that didn't stop us! We all knew what we were up against and Brittney and Phil were devoted to having fun, laughing and keeping each other warm. At the end of the session they finally admitted to being cold and were so happy when it was time to wrap it up. You can see their jump for joy in the images below. I'm going to speak for all of us when I say that we had such a good time at our session. We went around to a few prime spots in the city and a few not so well known spots so that they could have variety with their images. The main goal of the session was to capture images for their save the dates, but I ended up capturing lots of fun moments between the two of them.  I'm so excited to photograph their fall wedding at the Crofoot in Pontiac. I had the best time working with Heather and Chris during their Detroit engagement session. As a Michigan wedding photographer I don't get enough opportunities to photograph couples in downtown Detroit, so this was a pleasant surprise. They were a blast to work with and I can't wait for their wedding next year. Join me in congratulating on their engagement!

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect Michigan day to photograph Allison and Brett to celebrate their engagement. Being a Michigan engagement and wedding photographer, we often have to go with mother nature gives us weather wise. This day was just splendid with lovely light to boot. We started our engagement session in downtown Northville where we walked Main street and found lots of little nooks and crannies to use for their images. After that we hit the outskirts of Mill Race before heading to a beautiful field nearby where we were greeted by the most amazing sunlight I've seen all year. Congratulations to Allison and Brett as they celebrate their engagement! I can't wait to photograph their wedding next year.
