Jennifer and Nate
Engagement Pictures at Quarton Lake
Dec 29, 2018
Engagement Pictures in Birmingham with Jennifer and Nate were taken by Kellie Saunders, a Birmingham, Michigan wedding photographer.
I really loved working with Jennifer and Nate to help them capture some loving and fun moments to celebrate their engagement. They came in from out of town, so we shot in midday sun. I love this gallery as it's a perfect example that shooting at high noon isn't something to be feared. As long as photographers understand the direction of light we can shoot in full sun and still get stunning results. I had an absolute blast working with them and as you can see from the images we captured below, I think they had fun too! Jennifer and Nate were married at Lazy J Ranch in Milford later that summer and I'll post their wedding images soon.

Alicia and Nick
Birmingham MI Engagement Pictures
Dec 29, 2018
Birmingham, MI engagement photos at Quarton Lake provided by Kellie Saunders, a top Detroit wedding and engagement photographer.
I'm a bit behind with blogging these days as it's just busy, busy, busy here at the studio with bookings and meeting new couples in the colder winter months. One of the first things we do is set up our engagement session and I love showing how beautiful the parks are in my area. Alicia and Nick met me in Birmingham at my usual spot and we had so much fun celebrating their engagement with pictures! Alicia is a natural beauty, both inside and out Nick, well he's pretty handsome too. What I loved hearing about during our session was their story and how they met at work and fell in love. These two laughed and shared a great afternoon with me. Their chemistry was off the charts fun! It might be cold outside today, but here's an engagement session from warmer days to help lift you from those winter blues!
Payton + Janiris
Birmingham Engagement Pictures

Engagement Pictures in Birmingham with Payton and Janiris were taken by Kellie Saunders, a Birmingham, Michigan wedding photographer.
Okay I can't tell a lie here, in all the years I've been in business, I've probably never laughed so much during an engagement session as I did with Payton and Janiris. I admit that I sometimes bust out in song while working with couples (yes I sing to my people), but for some reason I just couldn't stop singing on the day I photographed Payton and Janiris. They were so welcoming, down to earth and lively that I couldn't help myself. When I started singing Payton actually cheered me on! Honestly, as silly as it sounds, it was just good old fashioned fun and it helped create authentic laughter and energy between the two of them and soften the photography process. We photographed at some of my favorite spots in Birmingham. If you are looking for some Metro Detroit engagement picture location ideas Birmingham is a great option. There are plenty of beautiful local parks that are quiet with soft light and gentle foot traffic. In addition to that the downtown area is really fun and lends a hand to some great opportunities for a different look.
I really enjoyed getting to know Patyon and Janiris during their engagement session and I can't wait for their August wedding at the Madison Building in Detroit. It is going to be simply amazing with two lovely people, inside and out!!!
Ann Arbor Peony Garden
Lauren + Adam | Arb Engagement Pictures
Jun 20, 2018
Engagement Pictures at Nichols Arboretum Peony Garden in Ann Arbor with Lauren and Adam were taken by Kellie Saunders, a Birmingham, Michigan wedding photographer.
Peonies only bloom for a short time and there is no better place to celebrate their beauty than Ann Arbor's Nichol's Arboretum Peony Garden. There are many different varieties of this special flower at the gardens and they are lovingly cared for by expert master gardeners. People come from all over to see the blooms and their lovely splendor. Photography is welcome, but to catch these sessions, it's not for the faint of heart. You have to battle weather changes and be very flexible. These delicate flowers bloom for such a short time and because the success of a peony session is really weather dependent (in my opinion that is), I've found more often than not, that we have to move dates quite often when planning. Luckily Adam and Lauren were fantastic, fun, flexible and up for the challenge! We ended up hitting the garden on one of the very last days before the flowers lost their blooms but we still made it work and wow - what an amazing session we had. I had so much fun working with Lauren and Adam and getting to know them. I don't think we stopped laughing the entire time, as you can see from some of the images below. I am so excited for their upcoming wedding!!! Here are a few of my favorites from their engagement session at the Arb.
Want a session like this one? Because of the short window of the delicate blooms, I can only book one or two sessions like this each year. These are only available to current wedding clients on a first come basis and book about one to two years in advance.
Lazy J Ranch Wedding Photos
Jessica + Josh | Milford Lazy J Pictures
May 1, 2018
Wedding photos at the Lazy J Ranch in Milford was provided by owner and lead wedding photographer Kellie Saunders and her fantastic friend and lead shooter Leah Moss. They are one of Southeast Michigan's best and most creative wedding photography teams. If you are having your wedding at the Lazy J Ranch, this is the team you want to consider for your wedding photography!
I can't say enough wonderful things about the Lazy J Ranch and it's staff! Joe, the owner is such a great person and has always made my couples feel like part of the family. That's the thing with this venue, it can be anything you want. You can have a downhome feel to your wedding and keep it super low key, or you can really do it up and get as swanky as you want. We've shot all kinds of weddings here at the ranch, so I know that Joe and his team will make whatever vision you have come to life for your big day!
Let me start this post by talking about Jessica and Josh. When I first met Jessica I felt like we had been friends long before the day we met. She was so comfortable and at home in my studio and we laughed and laughed as she told me all about Josh and her plans for her wedding day. I knew they were my people and this was the wedding for me! (Thank you for picking me Jess!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!)
Before I get into their story, which Jessica actually wrote for me - thanks again Jess, I want to tell you about how beautiful their wedding day was. It's no secret that my entire team adores the Lazy J Ranch for weddings! We jump at every opportunity to work there, but for this wedding especially we knew it would be extra special. Jessica's attention to details and love for photographs was second to none so I knew she would have some really fantastic surprises in store for us. I can say that this wedding did not disappoint! Jessica and Josh decided to have a first look in order to make time for more photographs, and I was really happy they did. Their first look was a very special and beautiful moment, shared by just the two of them, and after we all dried our eyes, we had the whole ranch to ourselves for some photographic fun! You can see some of what we captured on the ranch below.
After bridal party photos it was time for Jessica and Josh to tie the knot, and they did so outdoors with the most gorgeous blue sky as a backdrop. We aren't always this lucky to get such a nice day, but Jessica and Josh hit the weather jackpot! Jessica was so beautiful walking down the aisle towards her handsome guy. Even though they already saw each other earlier in the day, they still got all the feels during their ceremony, and so did we! Once they said "I do", we sat down for a delicious wedding dinner at the ranch and then made our way to the second barn where DJ Tweezy kept the dance floor rocking all night long. We had a great time working with Jessica, Josh and their friends and families. What a great time and what great people! Congrats Jess and Josh!!
Here's what Jessica had to say about her story with Josh. What a great story!!!!
"Josh and I met back in middle school and we played soccer together. Our parents both worked for ROYSA soccer and helped bring the love we had for each other to light. We went to different High Schools in Royal Oak, but in our senior year our high schools combined. We started dating on September 9, 2006, the summer before our senior year. We had a great senior year, sharing a few classes together and spending every moment we could together. When it came time to make big decisions about where we were going to college, I decided to stay home, and Josh went to Saginaw Valley State University to play soccer. We had some ups and downs being in a long distance relationship, but our love for each other was strong and we made it through the tough times being apart from each other. After Josh graduated he moved back home and got a job in a neighboring city, and we went back to spending all of our spare time together. In 2013 we decided we wanted to look for a home to buy so we could start our lives together. We found our perfect house in Clawson, close to both of our parents homes, and got a kitty named Lola. We have made our house a home and love every thing about it. Josh proposed on August 26, 2016. Since we had been dating for 10 years I was expecting a proposal, but just not on that day. I had been at a professional development day at school all day and had my brothers 30th birthday party that evening. When i got home there were pictures of Josh and I on the door and I immediately knew Josh was proposing. I always wore an infinity right on my ring finger so i took it off and put it in the pocket of my dress. When i walked in the house there were tons of candles lit, rose petals everywhere, and ten red balloons that lead to the bedroom. On the balloons were pictures of Josh and I throughout the years with loving and sweet words that Josh had written about our love and relationship. As i progressed through the house following the trail of balloons, rose petals and candles I got so excited and tons of butterflies. When i reached our bedroom and read the last message on our picture (a picture where we were a grandma and grandpa for halloween) it said "I can't wait to grow old with you!!". When i opened the bedroom door Josh was standing behind a heart made of rose petals and got down on one knee. I of course said Yes!! It was the best day of our lives."
